Help

Displays system help files

Auto-Start

The first time you turn on your computer for the day, the meditation for the day will be displayed.

Disabling Auto-Start

If you no longer wish to have the JFT software start-up when you turn on your computer, follow these instructions:

1)  Open the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

2)  Delete the JFTweb short-cut.

Auto-refresh

The software refreshes itself every 10 minutes and returns to the meditation of the day.  This feature cannot be modified or turned off.

Printing a meditation

Make sure that you have clicked on the meditation, making it the active window.  Then, click your browser’s print button.

Copying and Pasting

If you would like to copy a portion of a meditation into another document like a word processor or an email, highlight the portion of text that you would like to copy.  The text that you highlight is automatically placed on the Windows clipboard.   A message box will pop up that contains the text that you highlighted.  If this is not correct, highlight the correct portion and repeat the process.

Open up the application that you wish to copy into and use its paste function. In Windows, ctrl-v usually works.  Please respect our copyrights.  This program is covered by copyright law and NA’s Fellowship Intellectual Property Trust.  Please do not copy the meditations for the purposes of publishing in any media.  Thank you.

Searching by Date

1)   Click on the "Search by date" button.  The calendar for January will appear.  The dates are in the same location for each month since the days of the week are not important here.  The only difference from month to month is the number of days.

2)   Use the arrow button to the right of the month to go to the next month.  The calendar is circular.  The next month after December is January.

3)   Use the arrow button to the left of the month to go to the previous month.  The calendar is circular backwards as well.

4)   To display the meditation for a particular day, simply click the date in the month on the calendar.

The date that is currently displayed in the meditation window shows up in blue on the calendar.  Green dates are meditations that you have previously chosen from the calendar.

Searching by Keyword

1)   Click the "Search by Keyword” button.

2)   Enter the text that you want to search on.

3)     Press the "Search" button.

4)     All meditations that have the word or phrase that you are searching for will be displayed in a results window.   To go directly to the meditation you are interested in, click on the "hyper-link," the underlined date.

5)     To return to the results window, click the back button on your browser.

Searching Hint:  The software searches on whole words and phrases only.  It does not look for matches that are contained in a word.  For example:  Searching on "complicate" will yield no results while searching on "complicated" will give you 4 different meditations.

Journal

The Journal works with MS-Word compatible word processors.   When you press the journal button, the software opens the file journal.doc from the JFT workspace.  Press Open to continue.

If you have copied a portion of the meditation of the day before you pressed the journal button, paste it in using the Edit/Paste menu option or simply press ctrl-v.  Go ahead and record your thoughts and feelings.

Saving the Journal

When you are ready to save your writings, you can save your work in the JFT workspace or you can archive it into any folder you choose.  To save the writings as a work in progress, use the “Save” option from the “File” menu.  This will save the journal in the JFT workspace and the next time you open the journal, it will be just as you left it, ready to add more writing too.

Archiving

When you would like to archive your work, use the “Save As” option from the “File” menu.  You can then choose any folder and filename that you like.  After you have archived, remember to clear the workspace by deleting everything on the form and saving an empty journal page in the JFT workspace.  Otherwise, the old text will be there the next time you journal.
